I had lung cancer 2 years ago and unfortunately they have just found a tiny light on a recent ct and pet scan Biopsy was negative maybe as too small but radical chemo and radiotherapy is the suggested route for a hopeful cure . As I am the older generation can anyone tell me if they have got through these together and any suggestions of creams exercise. Or anything else would be so helpful I start treatment this Monday 20/01/25 Thank you
I had Concurrent Chemotherapy and Radiotherapy for NSCLC - aged 62. Got through it OK.
30 # Radiotherapy and 3 cycles Cisplatin and Vinorelbine. You will have steroids and anti sickness meds. Be careful with Ondansetron as it can be v constipating. So ask for Laxido sachets. Plenty of fluids, fruit, fibre, veg.
Some people get a sore throat/ indigestion. Not too bad for me but meds if needed.
Keep Radiotherapy area well moisturised- I used blue Aveeno but lots of creams available and they may give you some. Always ask. Always let them know side effects as usually a solution. You will have regular blood tests and should see consultant regularly too. Bit of a pain going to hospital everyday but time goes. They usually give you a schedule. I liked early morning to leave rest of day free.
Good luck with it all.
I am 71 and was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer along with tonsils, lymph nodes and adrenal glands back in October 2020 and was given a prognosis of 2-4 years.
I had 60 radiotherapy, 8 sessions of chemo followed by 12 months of immunotherapy.
I have now entered year 5 and I’m not in remission as the beast is asleep.
my oncologist cannot quite understand my secret. Me neither and although I get tired I feel healthy and still manage 2-4 miles a day with my dogs.
I really believe it’s a mind issue.
Cancer will take my life eventually but it will not rule it.
So keep your chin up, it can be better than it seems at first.
I had lung cancer 15 months ago couldn't be operated on, had 6 weeks chemotherapy along 6 weeks 30 radiotherapy, then on umuntherpty Durvalumab been on 10 months, not easy but coped really well was ld, a few side affects but we are all difference, I am so pleased to say after ct scan last week results yesterday, I've got no cancer left in my lung ,so for me the treatments I've had got me here,
ood luck with your treatments, ohh and I'm 76 year's young
Hello,
My husband is 52 years old, non-smoker. He is undergoing a diagnosis right now. PET shows a possible lung cancer. Waiting biopsy outcome. Worried about prognosis but reading your stories has given me hope. We haven’t yet told our children, three under 18. Life feels different and uncertain.
Wow Gerry Stage 4 you are brilliant ! All of those treatments you got through as well! I m sure being positive helps so much plypus I think people will spend the time with you to help you if they think you are trying hard as well .Also your dog must be part of your recovery if you are walking that far every day .So happy you are being rewarded for all your hard work and long may it continue!
What stage were you diagnosed at ? You had 6 sessions of chemo and 30 radio .Did you have many side effects? How long do you have to have Durvalumab for and does that have side effects ? I know evyone is different and will have different side effects but I like to know what to expect so I can be ready for it You have done so well and us spring chickens are fighters
On this page are 75/75/ and 76 /71year olds how about that !
I felt the same about telling my children and grandchildren .I felt until I had a positive result and a way forward for treatment there was no need to worry them .At least then you can give it a positive spin .He is young so will be able to fight it especially if he has 3 children to fight for! It will be hard for you though I expect your children are going through exams etc so it won t be easy but as you can see on this forum there are a lot of people who get through it all.Good luck with the prognosis and make sure you study everything up before making any big decisions I found macmillan do lots if leaflets and nhs site .There is a lot of support here with people going through the same thing as you
