KINGSTON Hi everyone
After just over 2 years clear of cancer A ct and pet scan is lighting up very tiny .A biopsy did not get any cancer cells so I found it quite difficult when the oncologist said radical treatment of chemo and radiotherapy was needed.I think as it was caught very early it was difficult to get a section from .We have now had a brain mri a second ct and a second let scan and kidney function tests and although( it’s been a tough 10 days I am very grateful for how quick it has been .The Marsden are amazing .Can anyone advise me how they felt after chemo and radiotherapy together please
I would rather have hard facts so that I can get ready for them I realise everyone is different but any feedback would be good .I think the treatment would be 2 chemos and 6 weeks of radiotherapy ie 30 treatments .As my lung capacity is not that great a little worried over the effects .Does anyone know what cream could help ?Ido not usually use anything with chemicals anyway.i am doin* a lot of research but could possibly start treatment in January.
Thanks all and have a lovely Christmas and a happy new year Enjoy
Hi Kingston , like you I had a few years of clear of cancer then on my annual check up something flagged up , had a PET scan and it lit up , as it was too small , 1.7mm to do a biopsy I had 4 weeks radiotherapy . Having the radiotherapy was ok though because of where they were aiming it did affect my throat , a couple of weeks on a soft diet plus meds from hospital and it was fine , but typical me I had bad reaction to radiotherapy and it has caused me to be rather breathless as also like you my lung function wasn't great to start off with , I also have COPD and emphysema ( lucky white Heather) so that doesn't help but not everyone has a bad reaction. The cream i got from the nurses doing radiotherapy was called ZEROBASE , I didn't burn but it felt hot as if it was so that's why nurse gave me the cream You may feel more tired but this passes .
Even though this is my 3rd time of having cancer, I had breast cancer 11 yrs ago , I have never had or been offered chemo , nor have I had brain scan , just my usual 6 monthly ct scan of my chest & abdomen , in fact I am at present awaiting results of my latest scan .
I hope this is of some help but everyone is different in how they cope with treatments . These are my hard facts but you could be totally different .
Have a lovely Christmas and New Year x
Thank you so much for your experience It’s always good to know different people’s reactions especially yours as I have cold and emphysema .this was my worry. I think the brain mri was to make sure it has not travelled to the brain .My information was radiotherapy to kill it and chemo to kill off anything that may escape although nothing showing on PET scan Should start after Christmas so let’s see .Thanks again for taking the time to share Enjoy your christmas
