Mums plan is for surgery and chemo. Looking like a partial lower right lobectomy..
But, mum has an appointment for a brain scan which is going to take place next Friday. She’s really anxious about this. From what I can establish, her anxiety is because she has a plan for surgery and post surgery chemo and feels very positive about this. She’s just so worried that the brain scan will show something up and put a dampener on current treatment plans.
Obviously, I cannot categorically tell her that the brain scan won’t show anything up and I’ve validated her feelings, surely it’s natural to be anxious about such things.
however, I have honestly shared with her that I’m not concerned about the brain scan and that even is her worse fears materialise, she is showing no symptoms from brain activity and there is bound to be some treatment options, should this occur.
im now hoping that I’m not promoting false hope for her. It’s so difficult sometimes, knowing what to say for the beet. And the waiting for tests and results, as well as appointmebts, doesn’t help with the anxiety we are all experiencing.
thanks for listening to my rant. This group is amazing
Hi Steve E24
An MRI scan is a fairly routine part of the lung cancer diagnosis/treatment planning process. It is done more to confirm that there are no signs of cancer in the brain, rather than to find it.
I hope this helps a bit.
