Stage 4 lung cancer was diagnosed 16 months ago and targeted drug therapy (Osiminitib) had stabilised this until last ct scan showing “minute” cancer growth. I have an appointment with a radiologist to discuss treatment. I have felt and still feel very well with no symptoms of illness. My dilemma is whether to decline radiotherapy and eventually accept palliative care. I have a fear that radiotherapy will now make me feel unwell and compound my inevitable worsening health.
Hi Anika sorry to hear that your recent scan has shown slight growth. Any treatment is a worry, and yes radiotherapy will come with some side effects. However every one reacts differently to any treatment, no 2 people will experience the same, it really does depend on how your body reacts. The treatment itself is quick, simple and painless. It’s very much like having an X-ray.
I had radiotherapy myself, and for me it was a very successful treatment. Yes I felt tired for a few weeks, and my oesophagus became sore with the radiation burn, but the truth is I wouldn’t be here now if I hadn’t of had the treatment.
I think you need to have a serious discussion with your oncologist and radiologist to see what they think the outcome of the treatment will be. You need all of the information before you can make a decision.
