Hi Babbala bu welcome to the forum. Im assuming the drain will be to drain off any fluid from the operation site and to stop this settling on the lungs.

  • A drain is used in most surgical procedures, not just for lung cancer. The drain is important where wound infection is concerned.  I had two drains put in after breast cancer, one in the surgical site in the breast and one in the axilla (armpit) where the surgeons removed my lymph glands. The drainage bottle always has be positioned below the surgical site, if higher the fluid can drain back into the wound and cause an infection.

  • Hi   yes drains are used in some op to take away fluid , I had one when they did lung op plus one when they removed a cyst from my breast  , you don't  really feel you have one and they're not in for long  .

    Take care x
