Does anyone else with lung cancer suffer from weak bladder and “cough flatulence”?  I’m finding it more and more difficult to control these things. Also waiting for results and prognosis is really getting me down. How long have you folks had to wait after all the preliminary tests?

  • Hi  the early days of tests and waiting for results is always a very difficult time. Waiting times can vary depending where you are in UK and what hospital you are at. Each cancer diagnoses has to follow a pathway, where certain tests and tick box’s have to happen. These tests will include respiratory tests, CT scans, possibly PET scan and a biopsy. All of these tests take time and It does take a couple of weeks to get the results for each test. Once all these are back then a meeting called an MDT is held where it is then decided what treatment plan is best. Things usually move very quickly after the MDT.

Having a constant cough can be tiring. Have you spoken to the GP about an inhaler to see if that will help. I am sorry you are having problems with your bladder because of the coughing. I think most of us here can relate to that. You can purchase some very discreet pads these days to help with the bladder issue. Tena have a whole range to help with this.

I do hope you don’t have to too much longer to wait for your results. Please let us know how you get on.

  • Hi Spanglydangly

The waiting is a bummer, and I suspect is understandably  making  you a tad anxious.  Anxiety could be contributing to the weak bladder and coughing issue.  Try to relax if you can and you may find that these symptoms settle down.

From my initial referral to my local hospital to the start of my treatment at The Christie was approx 7 weeks, but I think  Covid and the NHS strikes may have now  impacted on the time scales.

II hope you get your treatment plan soon.
