Dad’s Lung Cancer

Hi guys,

I’m here to get advice on what to expect please.  My 83 year old dad has lung cancer in both his lungs.  He has had Radiotheraphy on both lungs and has pretty much been told that due to the radiation making his lungs paper thin there aren’t really any more options available for treatment but he’s likely to need oxygen at home before long. One of the tumours is also fast growing.

I’m scared of when he is going to start onto the downward spiral and feel like I need to know what to expect.  Is he likely to get more and more breathless, will he become more and more fatigued? Will he start getting pain in the lungs? Does lung cancer usually spread before you lose the fight? So many questions and literally nobody to ask?

He hasn’t been given a time frame yet but then I feel like they don’t keep us informed of anything anyway.

  • I am so sorry to hear about your father.     I've just started my journey so I cant answer questions . But this is a good place to come, theres also a forum part on ask experts here just search the groups . Or call their support line they are all very helpful. Keeping you and your family in my thoughts.

  • Hi MrsY

I know how you feel I was terrified when someone I really loved was diagnosed and sent home. Luckily we had the same doctor and I went for a general chat which really helped. That’s over thirty years ago.
So is there a way that you can get medical advice. Maybe phone someone here. They’re really lovely I have phoned them about myself.
    Ask a Nurse

My loved one passed away peacefully at home with us all there and I felt reassured by getting some advice from a medic

    sending you a hug
