This is my personal journey  with the Nicotine monster.

I got the results from the biopsy on the Thursday 6 weeks ago and started a smoking cessation programme on the following day Friday. It was prescribed patches 21mg  & 2mg lozenges.

I don't need to say, how that feels as we all differ, for me the first week was hell, I couldn't sleep, I was angry and aggressive. The lozenges were not to my liking. Second week was the same and l had three roll ups during this time. I was then  given a nicotine spray for break through. This worked well and stopped the craving, wonderful. Unfortunately it had two side effects, flatulence and hiccups. Not so good with reflux and IBS. I then was given a 15mg inhalator.  This was great no side effects. The patches were put on different parts of my body as recommended.  As if I were jinxed, I was getting a rash on all of the sites I had put patches. There was no information that I could find on the adhesives ingredients. I have a latex allergy and after much research found out that there's a clear patch for any one sensitive to.....

This was the fourth week on the Friday evening,  I had one option and that was to stop. So I continued with the Inhalator, until I could speak my cessation counsellor. And get some advice.

I made the decision to go cold turkey, first 3 days were hard. I depended ona box of fidget toys, they really helped  i can recommended them.

I will be 6 weeks smoke free this Friday coming Grin

  • Well done Jamie! It really isn’t easy to quit. I used nicotine gum, but my goodness the heart burn that it gave me was awful! I eventually switched to normal gum until I felt I didn’t need it anymore.

Keep up the good work ! One day at a time.
