hi everyone sorry for asking this daft question but when and how will I find out if my radiotherapy has worked? Will I have a scan? Then get results off doctors to say my lung tumour has gone or shrunk? Will doctors see me or phone me my results? Will I be discharged? If I’m discharged what if it comes back? What will happen if my radiotherapy hasn’t worked? What will happen then? I don’t know if my radiotherapy has worked or not because of my copd and emphysema I always have a bad cough and chest it’s no worse or better than it was before they only found out I had lung cancer because I get a scan every year because of my copd and something showed up on my scan about 5 years ago but it never changed size or shape so they were ok with it but said they would watch it but last year it had grown in size and shape  and that’s when I was diagnosed with lung cancer last year December the 19th 2022 I’m just a bit worried that the radiotherapy has worked and I get discharged and it comes back so does anyone knows what will happen please take care love Yvonne

  • Hi Yvonne. They will scan you after 13 weeks or so I imagine and let you know and either way they will keep an eye. If it needs further treatment you’ll discuss those options with them. I had immunotherapy after when it was found it had spread into the pleura and then a clinical trial that has worked amazingly well. Good luck with your results

  • Hi  no question is ever a daft question here. I can tell by your post how anxious you are feeling. Can I assure you that after your treatment your oncology team will still be keeping a very close eye on you! The radiotherapy does continue to work in your body for some time after treatment has stopped, so the first scan is usually about 3 months after. No body is ever discharged straight away, you have to be cancer free for 5 years before you are given the discharge. x
