Hi my mum is 73 yrs

Diagnosed with lung cancer summer 2021. August 2022 scan showed 2 metastatic in brain.

Her condition has declined dramatically since Christmas eve, yesterday she was admitted into hospital and the scan showed a bleed on the brain.

There nothing they can do which I totally understand so she's in hospital and they are going to organise palliative care team which I asked to have at home, I'd like her to come with her family.

I thought I would see if anyone else has experience this with there loved one, as nit sure what to expect now.

Thanks in advance

  • Hi  I am sorry to hear about your mum. It may take a little time to arrange care at home. My mum came home with palliative care, she had ovarian cancer.  A bed was delivered and set up in her lounge at home. A Macmillan nurse came in twice a day to sort her pain relief. It is not easy to care for a loved one at home, but I am glad we did, she wanted to come home.

Can I suggest you call the Macmillan support line on 0808 808 00 00 and chat to one of the support workers about what is ahead.

Thinking of you and your mum, and hope she is back home with you soon x

Thank you for sharing your experience. I will give them a call.

My mum's awareness is not great she is confused alot it's like dementia, she doesn't remember things you tell her.

We were caring for her ourselves for 2 weeks before her condition worsened and it really is very challenging, emotionally and physically.

I practice mindfulness and meditation and it has really helped me during this experience, I'm able to be with what's happening and manage the fear around it all.

However it definitely helps even more to hear other people's experiences and receiving such caring support.

    Thank you again

    Much love
