Phlegm!

Hello Fellow Fighters,

I have had my bronchoscopy (which was not half as bad as I’d imagined). I have an appointment for the 13th which I'm guessing is when I have my prognosis. I'm also guessing that I'm quite a bit older than you guys, I'm 77 on the 7th of next month.

I have a daughter and 18 year old grandson who live with myself and my husband. My daughter has BPD, and they have lived with us for the last 10 years.

I'm getting an awful lot of phlegm, yellow/green and I wondered if this is part of the illness?

It sounds like a constant smokers cough, although I don't smoke. Any advice would be most welcome. I sound like I'm not scared, but I've too many responsibilities not to fight this with all the strength I have.

  • Hi,

My partner had a bronchoscopy and a day or so later he got a really bad cough and runny nose. In contacting the doctor, she said it was more then likely an infection from the bronchospy. He was coughing up lots of green and white phlegm. He took his last abx today, he's not coughing as much or bringing as much gunk up. I think that's what got my partner down and feeling tired, just all the coughing xx

  • Thank you so much. xxx

  • Hi Orbit

I developed a dry cough after my bronchoscopy, much to the (unspoken) irritation of my work colleagues. I put the cough down to the cancer being disturbed by the scope. The cough disappeared after my first round of chemo.

It does sound more like a chest infection, so give your GP a call to see if you can get some antibiotics and/or advice regarding getting an 'over the counter' cough medicine.

Stay positive; now that you have had the biopsy your cancer team will be able to start putting together the best treatment plan for you and your cancer.

  • Thank you Kegsy. I have had one round of antibiotics which haven't helped. I will speak to my GP again although unfortunately she doesn't seem to want to become involved, and leaves it to my asthma team. I'm having my prognosis on Tuesday (scary) so I'll as then.

    Take care of yourself xxx
