Since being diagnosed with lung cancer I find that by the end of the day I feel like if I’m wearing a bra my breathing is constricted. I’ve tried not wearing one but that also hurts but in an aching muscles way.  It doesn’t make any difference if it is wired or non wired.  I can’t be the only one - what do others do?

  • Hi MazLC, yes it’s a real pain, quite literally. I find some days I can wear a normal bra for most of the day, but other days it’s just too uncomfortable. I have found some t shirt type bras, that are very soft, and they have no clasps or fastenings, you just put them on over head, like you would a garment. I also get these in a larger size so it’s not tight. I am large busted, and I find this does give me enough support.  I also wear this to any scans or X-rays, as you can keep this on and not have to change. Most supermarkets sell them, peacocks although I know that’s closing now ( very sad)  Matalan , or you can get similar ones in the sports shop, although they are not as soft.

    Thank you Chelle x

  • Hi MazLC

i haven’t worn one for 2 years now, I only wear one if I have to go out anywhere or if anyone is coming to the house, then it’s a mad rush to take it off. I have tried every style going, even gone up a size but nothing works, so I gave up. I decided it was because of the lymph glands/nodes in the centre of my chest, as that is where there problem seems to be. I only self diagnosed it to be that because a long time ago in a conversation with the oncologist I remember him saying when there is a cancer in the chest the lymph glands/nodes are affected, though the conversation certainly wasn’t about brasJoy I must say I feel a bit better knowing it hasn’t been my imagination all this time.

    Take care

Lol that makes me feel better.  It hurts on the left side (the lung without the cancer but with the traction bronchiectasis) if I don’t wear one.
