Have had the fibrosis and emphysema for 5 years. Was diagnosed with lung cancer in April. Because of the fibrosis only palliative care is possible. Was given 6 months. Am in limbo. Help? I have 2 killers. Which one will get me?
Hi Mordred
I am sorry to read your post and I can understand your concerns. Unfortunately it is a question that most of us cannot answer for you as non of us are medically trained. If you really want to know you could ask your oncologist or respiratory person their views. However, to me your posts screams that knowing this would not be in anyway useful to you. I feel you need to speak to someone about how you are feeling and perhaps get some talking therapies? You can contact Macmillan on 0808 808 00 00 from 8am to 8pm for them to advise how to get in touch with people offering these therapies. Or you speak to your team or GP about getting referred for this, or even if you have a palliative team.
You may also benefit from joining the living with incurable cancer patients only group of the forum as there many different cancers there with a similar predicament.
Finally, please note that the estimate of time is exactly just that... an estimate. It doesn't mean that is it, I suspect (though I have never asked) I have already out lived my expected time. I think the most important thing to do is keep looking forward, yes maybe adjust how far you look forward, but to keep thinking what you would like to do in the next three to 6 months works for me.
I hope this helps a little.
Am still unable to access "living with incurable cancer " forum. So frustrating and affecting my breathing. Mordred
Oh dear, let me tag Ellen - Macmillan she is one of the forum administrators and should be able to approve your request to join the group.
Thanks for tagging me here.
- I am so sorry to hear that not being able to access the Living with incurable cancer forum has caused you frustration.
I have now added you to the group so you should be able to post there and talk to others.
If there's anything else myself and the team can do to support you then please don't hesitate to let me know.
Best wishes,
Ellen
I only want to share my experience of this nightmare I am in. I am useless with this technology. Please help me someone. Mordred
Hi ,
I'm really sorry to hear about what you're going through just now and I hope you find the Community to be a source of comfort and support.
I've now added you to our Living with Incurable cancer forum, where you'll be able to start a discussion and hear from others who may be going through something similar.
If you click here, you should be taken to the group.
Once you're there, you should see a 'New +' button, or a '+' button if you're using a mobile. It looks like this on a desktop:
If you select this button, you should be given the option to start your own discussion. You should then receive some responses from other members in the group.
We also have our Help Section, where we have guides on how to use the forum. I've included a link which will take you to a page which explains more about how to use groups on the Community.
I hope this helps, Mordred, and I hope the Community shows you that you are not alone.
If you need any further help with using the site, or there's anything myself and the team can do to support you then please don't hesitate to get back in touch.
Best wishes,
Ellen
