Last time I had lung cancer (9 years ago) I was told by the specialist that they couldn't do a biopsy as I had emphysema and basically the lung would collapse the moment the needle hit it.
This time round suddenly he says he wants to do a biopsy as apparently my breathing is too bad to support surgery or life after surgery. Needless to say I am rather worried at this change of heart - he tells me this is the only way he can determine the type of cancer in the lung without surgery so a decision can be made as to treatment for it.
Is there anyone else here with emphysema who went through a biopsy - if so, I'd love to hear your comments and advice!
Hi Margey
Sorry I do not have personal experience of this so I cannot help you I am afraid. I know the community is going off line tomorrow for a couple of days. Maybe call through tomorrow between 8am and 8pm on 0808 808 0000 and ask to speak to a Macmillan nurse about your concerns.
Good luck with it all.
