A quick question about Alcohol

Hello Everyone

I was wondering, on behalf of my mum, is it ok to have a small glass of wine whilst undergoing treatment?  She is on pemetrexed and pembrolizumab.  She doesn't drink a great deal but said that she does fancy a "lovely glass of wine" with her meal.  Do you think that would be ok?

Thanks for your help

    Hi Nicola

Probably best that our resident alcohol tolerance experts julie and chelle answer this Joy

I haven't had that particulalrly type of chemotherapy, but i have drunk small quantities on others and whilst having pembro... with no effects... well aside from being smaller drinking very little and found, I am now a very cheap date Joy

  • ThumbsupThanks for that, that's really useful Smile  There's a lot to be said for being a cheap date unless it's your round Joy

  • Personally I think all cancer treatment is difficult, and you should have a little bit of whatever you fancy, because basically we deserve it. Of course this is my opinion and not a medical one so might be best to check with her oncology team.

Nicola,  sure is. Maybe i can put it on my dating profile Wink

  • Cheers - I think she'll ask her team, but I agree with you - a little of what you fancy is a good thing.  Blush

  • Hi,

one of the first questions I asked my oncologist when prescribed immunotherapy (Pembro) was “ can I still have a glass of wine” He laughed, I suppose because with all the questions to ask, mine was about a glass of wine. He told me that I could, but obviously not to excess, which isn’t me anyway.

Got to get priorities sorted, right!!!

The next time you see your oncologist, ask, I wouldn’t want to advise, you what to do. All oncologist have different opinions, but I’m going with what mine said, “happy days”
