Hi
my husband has been diagnosed with lung cancer. He has had a bad cold for 7 weeks and prescribed antibiotics. Over the past 2 weeks he lost lots of weight, coughed up blood, pain in shoulder etc... all of the common symptoms. We attended A&E for a chest X-ray and within 4 hours had blood tests, CT scan, vitamin K injection due to him being anemic. and a lung cancer diagnosis. He has fluid around the tumour and has had a chest drain. We are in complete shock as expected and have a MD phonecall on Wednesday.
I dint know how to cope
Hi L30klh
I am sorry to hear of your husband's diagnosis shock. It is a horrible diagnosis to hear and no wonder you are reeling from it.
Please do not google at this stage, a lot of the information out there is old and out of date or complete tosh.
It is good that they have got all the diagnostic tests done so speedily for you both and to hear the plan on Wednesday should be reassuring. You can then feel like you know what you should be doing and this can help you to feel like you are doing something.
You will manage, it sounds like you won't at first, but we all manage to get through it. Go through all the emotions you want too. Shock, anger, denial, scream, shout, bargain and go back round them all as many times as needed. Everything is 'usual' honestly. We all go through them, sometimes many times over.
If you are struggling and want to talk, the Macmillan helpline is open 8am to 8pm everyday on freephone 0808 808 00 00.
I hope you get some more proactive news on Wednesday for you both. Take it easy
Oh and I should have said. there is another group here which you may want to join. This is the friends and family group if you click on the green writing, it will take you there. You will find many others there, that feel or have felt exactly as you do right now.
Thank you. I appreciate the comments. The medical and healthcare world is something (thankfully) myself or husband has never had to be part of . I just feel so helpless
