Hi

Hubby is so scared of getting ill that he wants me to call and cancel his CT tomorrow evening.

He's day 14 of his second round of ABCP treatment and  He's not sure why they need a scan so soon or if its worth the risk. Follow upl consultant appoint on Wed

Can anyone throw any light on why it would be so soon, and if its sensible to cancel please?

Thanks

  • I don't blame him.  My unit has cancelled all non-essential imaging and is sending people to third party providers where possible for essential imaging.

If you can't get clarity on why the scan is needed before the appointment, I'd be inclined to cancel and have it after you've had a chance to clarify why it's needed at the appointment.

  • I think the best thing is to phone his team and ask. Don’t just cancel the scan. They are only doing these scans if really needed. They are also taking all precautions to protect themselves and the patient from this virus. I know it’s nerve racking. I had to go for an injection and I got myself all worked up, but they really are taking all the precautions necessary.

  • Thanks to you both

phonedMcMillan Nurses and they said that it was protocol and that he did need to attend

So he'll be the one wearing every hat and scarf and gloves he owns.

  • Hi

just wanted to tell you about my CT scan I had four days ago.

As I was walking through the hospital to get to the CT apartment, I only saw one person, fully gowned, pushing the tea trolley into a ward. All the ward had big signs on stating no visitors.

When I got to reception at the CT place, there was a massive screen in front of the desk, protecting staff themselves and patients. Besides myself, there was one other patient waiting, on the other side of the waiting room ( big room) much more space than the recommended social distancing in place.

The staff that conducted the scan wore complete PPE and I can honestly say I felt safe. I did wear a mask also, but on reflection, I really think every precaution in relation to protection was taken seriously.

I can honestly say the experience has decreased any future trips to the hospital, and like you, I was initially really worried about going, but felt they would not have asked,  if they did not think it was important.

I hope this goes some way to reduce some of your anxieties
