Ok everyone's talking about coronovirus....... what do we with weekend immune system and damaged lungs do?
I have just completed a 7week hibernation avoiding light following PDT treatment. Now I have all these dates planned and feel so anxious about attending them.
Its a real dilemma with no real advice for cancer sufferers!
Hi cmtd
sorry you have been in hibernation.
For me i am carrying on as normal, i could be going about and pick up anything, flu, chicken pox what ever is the in thing at the moment.
Just making sure i wash my hands more, which was the first thing i did when i got in from shopping today.
Was at the hospital last week.
Just try to avoid small crowed places.
Cancer has altered all our lives, and for me nothing else is going to stop me carrying on with my normal daily life.
Hope others come in and put their point of few.
Take Care Ellie xx

Hi Cmtd
How was the PDT treatment? Was the isolation the worst bit?
The coronavirus is a worry. Last week a stranger at my local shopping centre shook my hand after I gave him directions to Iceland ( the shop not the place). I freaked out. To be honest I didn’t know what to do. I shook his hand but really did not want too. I used an antibacterial wipe straight away. My daughter works at the main hospital in cancer care, and she has said today that many people are phoning to change their appointment as they do not want to come in because of the risk. We do not currently have the virus here, but I don’t think it will be long.
Those that know me well, know of my cruise addiction. We are due to go in 6 weeks time. All paid for and we will not get a refund if we cancel at this point. My only hope is the cruise company will cancel, so we will then get an option to change the date or get a full refund. I really don’t want to go.
My daughter has just brought me in a box of supplies in case the virus takes hold. Oh the irony of the box
Hi all
I have been anxious about it too and because we are at the heightened risk if we do get it.
As yet we have no cases in the Channel Islands, however I knew when half term was coming up it would be the catalyst for it to spread like wildfire, which is certainly seems to be doing now.
With the Flybe going into administration over night we are now more vulnerable. They provided a lot of Jersey flights to the main hospitals in England (Southampton or London) which is where we regularly go to for anything that they cannot do over here (radiotherapy, specialist or non basic surgeries).
Along with that most of our food is imported by boat and with the storms it takes a day or two of ships not being able to dock for out food shelves to run dry in the supermarkets.
I order cupboard stuff online anyway as I cannot drive or carry too much, so I did an order in February for that sort of thing. There is very little home delivery services on Island. I tend to batch cook and freeze the rest of the meals. I was running to the end, so today I did a meat and vegetable shop to restock the freezer (I was going to anyway but perhaps bought a little extra in case). Tomorrow I will get some of the things I forgot and stock the cupboards a bit more in case.
Such a small Island it will spread rapidly and I have to use public transport to get about and the places I go to (supermarket, GPs and hospital) are likely the most at risk places to contract.
So even more hand washing and limiting a bit how much I go out and about in crowds where I can.
I guess we all have to do what we feel is right for us as like you say they have given no direct cancer advise as yet.
Hi ellie I agree cancer had taken enough but I'm still concerned
Like chellies idea of the Corona larger
But it's a real worry for us undergoing treatment - with a weekend immune system already this bloody virus is not good news!
My hospital is Wythenshawe in Manchester - they had their first case admitted yesterday. With a number of cases around the North West.
I am due to have my scan and follow up bronchoscopy/biopsy in April but feel concerned about going to the hospital - I'm sure a lot of people will feel this way.
We need to take care and be very selective where we go.

I do agree cathy, i went for my scan, then bloods and then oncology, will still have to get these appointments done.
If my cancer nurse phoned and said all appointments are cancelled for the time being then so be it.
We have to just be a bit more careful.

Cathy I would go but wear a mask. The hospital will provide this for you if you ask. And just be more careful when opening doors, going in lifts and holding hand rails. I’ve been pushing doors open with my foot, and I am using anti bac wipes or hand gel after touching anything. I’m sure I’ll be worse when I actually leave the house
Ha.... need to get a sense of humour like you
I've just finished my rounds of chemo and hope that the 'belt and braces' chemotherapy is the end of it. Getting bowel cancer was such a shock . I have spent the last few weeks planning and am determined that I am going to catch up with so many friends and family that I haven't seen for a while. I tell myself that coronovirus isn't going to stop me but it is worrying.
How long does it take for the immune system to recover? I guess it does depend on all sorts of things.
Just realised I've posted on the lung cancer thread! I searched coronovirus and this came up. I do realise that the virus will be more of a problem to you as it affects the lungs.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
