Has anyone been able to get travel insurance whilst having treatment and can recommend a company?

Our situation is that the radiotherapy has been deemed a success on my husbands lung with a shrinkage showing in size..but they say a new 'spot' has been found in his liver! Currently waiting for a PET scan to determine any other suspicious areas... ideally we want to get away to the sun before he has to have any more treatment and would appreciate advice if any one has any....

Thank you

Xx

  • Hi

I hope you don't mind me butting in, as I'm not a member of this group, but I noticed that you are asking for travel insurance recommendations.

Unfortunately it can be more difficult to find travel insurance when you have had a cancer diagnosis so could I suggest that you come and join us over in the travel insurance group where you'll find lots of recommendations for travel insurance.

To join just click on the link I've created and once you've done that look for the thread called 'Member's Stories' as it's where the majority of recommendations from other forum members are. Depending on what type of device you're using this thread will either be on the right-hand side or at the bottom.

It is best to phone the insurance companies rather than try and do online quotes as sometimes they can refer to the underwriters to see if they would cover you when an online quote might just give you a straight refusal.

Make sure you have all the information to hand about your husband's diagnosis and treatment before phoning. This is a list of things an insurer might want to know and some insurers might ask for a letter from your husband's doctor to prove that they have given him permission to travel.

I do hope that you can get insurance and that you have a lovely holiday wherever you decide to go.

I’m currently trying to get insurance for a trip to San Francisco booked before my diagnosis of sclc with liver and bone mets. I’m currently dealing with two companies Insurance With and Insure Cancer and waiting for quotes from them. The advice I would offer is not to bother with online quotes, just phone companies directly. My case is a bit tricky because this is my second bout of cancer in four years and the planned trip is to the US with its famously terrifying medical costs. You have to be prepared for a long questionnaire insurance Withs underwriter was on the phone with me for almost an hour yesterday, so be prepared. Good luck. Anna
