Have you tried selecting the 'no notifications' box for every group you are a member of (it's underneath the tick box for turning notifications off) on your profile page.
No, I have tried to stop the notifications a few time, but I still get them. I have managed to on other groups. Maybe email the admins to see if it's a site glitch or if they can tell us how, or do it for us.
