  • Hi Kerry

So very sorry that you have cause to be on here.

Of course you are devastated at this diagnosis and like everyone else in your position you have hit the internet looking for a miracle cure; trust me we have all done this either as the patient or the 'nearest and dearest'.

My only advice is to put your trust in the recognised and proven treatments. New treatments are being developed all the time.

Do you know the type of lung cancer he has? I only ask as it helps us on here to help and advise you. There are many on here who have out-lived their original prognosis, so as hard as it is please try to remain positive.

Hi, so sorry to read your upsetting news. I was diagnosed with Stage 4 NSLC (right lung) in May this year. I was very fit at the time and I have never smoked. I immediately changed my diet (plant-based and superfoods).  I’m am about to go onto my 8th cycle (28 days) of Afatanib which is a targeted therapy and everything is reducing.

I was told that what I have is inoperable and terminal but I’ve not let that beat me down. Everyone is different and will react to treatment in many ways but the one thing that I know exists in all that are effected is strength and a fighting spirit.

I do feel at times that I’m the grand piano musician in a marching band.  But every day I get up I’m ready to push this piano down the longest road and up the steepest hill.

There is a lot you can do for yourself that will support the amazing treatment out there. Stay positive and get strong for each other.

Hi, there are side effects with all drugs. Some patients sale through treatment with minimal side effects and others unfortunately do develop side effects.  The Oncology Team will support you through the whole process and guide you through the procedures to follow should you feel unwell or show signs that are listed for that drug.  I’ve had a lot of the common side effects listed for the drug I’m on, but they haven’t been that severe to warrant a reduction of the drug strength, thank goodness.

The advice I received was not to read Non Official Websites.  You can be miss informed....... something else I found useful was to speak the Macmillan support team.  They are very helpful and will definitely put you on the right track.

this was on the mcmillan site i read them on and the paperwork they give you suppose it has to be strong to try and kill the cells doesnt it? did they give you a time frame? also has your chemotherapy worked in reducing it? richard has it in both lungs and is contained in them for now! x

Thumbsup tone1 I’m on targeted therapy, which involves taking only one tablet a day.  Yes it’s working, the primary is Lung but I also have mets (lymph nodes and thyroid). Stay positive and trust in the team looking after Richard.

Stay strong, it’s hard but important.
