My husband is seeing the lung cancer surgeon tomorrow & was told to compile a list of questions. Is there anything that he needs to clarify? My head has gone to “brain fog”& my anxieties are off the scale so I would be grateful for any suggestions. Helen

Hi Helen , If your husband is having the operation you might want to ask for key hole surgery if possible ,I had this and just had 3  1 inch scars. and recovered really well.  best wishes Ellen.

Thanks Ellen, that would be great if they’re able to do keyhole. We will definitely ask. I worry so much & anything that speeds up recovery would be a bonus. Best wishes Helen

Hi Ellen, we asked the surgeon about keyhole & he said that due to the position, upper right lobe, size 5.5cm & removal of lymph nodes in chest it would have to be the open surgery. I’m absolutely terrified as he said he’d be in for 5-10 days & would need 3 months off work if he wasn’t retired. It’s all so frightening & as my husband has always been the strong one & looked after me with all my health problems (nothing like cancer) then I’m really struggling to cope.

The lovely lung cancer nurse is meeting us on Thursday for a chat about coping strategies so fingers crossed that helps.

    best wishes Helen.

Hi Helen, That's a pity that keyhole is ruled out but quite understandable given where the tumour is. It will take a bit longer to recover but he will be in good hands and as you say he is a strong person. You will be surprised how you will be able to cope when you need to. My husband was great looking after me , but just recently his thyroid cancer came back after 6 years ,he had a operation and I had to look after him . He is recovering really well but didn't help my anxiety. The lung nurses are wonderful and you will be able to ring them when ever you need to, Stay strong and keep in touch , Ellen.

Hi Ellen, sorry to hear that your husbands thyroid cancer returned. Good that he’s recovering well. It’s so difficult to cope when suffering from severe anxiety, I worry constantly.

Sending my very best wishes & will definitely keep in touch. Helen
