Pains in side and under ribs

hi,

i’ve been diagnosed with a 3.1cm lung carcinoid (which can’t be biopsied because of where it is) and a possible carcinoma near my iliac bone. I was biopsied for the second mass recently, but I don’t get the results until a week on Thursday. The waiting is awful! This has to be investigated before they can sort out the lung carcinoid, which is probably unresectable.

I have been having stitch-like cramping pains in my sides, high and towards my back, and a pain under my ribs at the front. I don’t know whether this is due to either mass or just stress. I’m also carer for my Mum, who is in very late stage dementia. So plenty of stress there too!

Has anyone else had this kind of symptom, please?

hi suzie, i have pain in back high up and sometimes across chest. was giving oramorph. that has now been changed to zomorph tablets. they help a bit. TC   was told they thought mine was from scarring of radiotherapy.

    Hi Derek

that sounds very painful, and I hope you’re feeling better now?

I don’t know whether I’ll be having radiotherapy, but I’ve been told that the lung tumour is very close to main arteries, which rules out a biopsy and would mean losing a lot of lung if surgery is an option.

i’m hoping the possible carcinoma is just scarring from previous ops, turning out to be benign. You can hope, can’t you.

i’ve also been looking up gene therapy and proton therapy. A new facility has opened near me for the latter procedure. Time will tell what the Consultants suggest for me going forward.

fingers crossed for both of us

    suzie

I, too, have been suffering with cramp-like symptoms in my sides (and lower legs), and this can be caused by stress. I haven't had a lot of bouts for a few days now, since the results of my 3 monthly scan, so mine could well be linked

Thanks John Boy 2, this is reassuring. I shall bring it up when I see my Consultant, but I think it probably is stress. It came on quite rapidly and comes and goes, being worst in the evening. But of course you can’t stop yourself worrying. I hope the appointment not being immediate is a good sign.

I hope the results are encouraging for you and if need be a treatment plan sees a way forward. I always say to mention and new symptoms to your team, though the fact it's sudden does sound like you are probably a little anxious and feeling every thing in your body as you are much more aware that their could be something to worry about. I hope all goes well for you.

Thanks Gina. I find the worst thing is waiting for the results, and that’s enough to make anyone anxious!
