I was wandering if anyone has had any issues with UTI’s. I have had pretty much constant / closely recurring UTI since Christmas. The samples have had infection in them and I have had numerous courses of Antibiotics .. I have eventually got a referral to urology after digging in about it.
My consultant has said she doesn’t think it is linked, And speak to my GP, however I am really worried there is more to this. My last eat scan is showing everything is stable but I am not sure of they can tell if it has spread to my bladder / kidney - does anyone know if this would be picked up at my scan?
Having lived with a UTI for 8months I feel that I am struggling to get any answers - despite having an appointment at urology - they cannot scan me as I have a confirmed infection - it’s a catch 22.
Can anyone offer any experience or help?

Hi Claire MF . I am not from this group and so have no knowledge of Lung cancer and associated problems. I am from the bladder group and as you are concerned about your bladder, I can offer you a slight insight. CT scans can pick up abnormalities in your bladder, but a clear scan can not rule things out as some things cannot be detected on a scan. The next step would usually be a flexible cystoscopy which is a camera in your bladder to see if there is anything abnormal. A simple and usually painless procedure. Hopefully this could rule out anything untoward. Unfortunately, as you mention earlier, these procedures cannot be carried out if there is a sign of infection.
Could I also point out there is currently a live Question and Answer Session open. The nurses are online until 1pm today and may be able to give you some expert advice. Click the link to get there and then click on Ask a question at the top of the page. Best wishes.
Hi claire
i suffered for about 12 months with recurring Uti’s. Like you I was constantly on antibiotics and feared there was more to it. Eventually my gp put me on steroids and a double course of antibiotics which seemed to do the trick. Thankfully there wasn’t anything more sinister. Hope you’re soon sorted out.x
Hello Mummyb
that is really interesting... it is good to know it can be “one of these things” would you mind me asking if you are on immunotherapy? Glad you got sorted Ans really appreciate you sharing your experience. Thank you x
Hi Claire.
im not on any treatment at the moment and if I remember rightly I wasn’t on any treatment at the time I was suffering with the uti’s either.
i had immunotherapy for 2 years which ended in January. Previously had surgery, chemo and radiotherapy. X
Hi Claire
Think this may be off help, I started to suffer from recurrent uti and couldn’t shift them. Went to see a urologist and he recommended I take Hiprex it’s an antibacterial not an antibiotic, it’s not widely used but it is available on prescription from your GP, my GP gives it to me no problem.
i started to take it had feeling like I was getting a urine infection for a week then ever since then I haven’t had one that was back in January
you take 1 tablet twice a day.
the only issue I have found is that they occasionally become short of stock and I end up purchasing it occasionally from an online chemist in Australia
other than that they have been a life saver, mum sister who also suffers frequent uti is also taking them , hope this will help.
