Hi
My journey to date is I was diagnosed stage 4 non small cell which had spread to spine.
A week after diagnosis I had spinal cord decompression and spine stabilisation surgery.
6 weeks safer surgery I had 5 doses of Radiotherapy to hopefully get rid of anything remaining in my spine.
I’ve been told 2/3 weeks after the Radiotherapy I will begin treatment for the nodule on my lung but as genetic testing hasn’t been completed the exact type tbc.
My question is I didn’t expect much in the way of side effects after only 5 sessions but I’m absolutely exhausted and my appetite is non existent.
Has anyone else felt like this after a short course?
Hi Graham
Please don't be so hard on yourself. In a relatively short space of time you have had surgery and a course of radiotherapy, so it is no wonder that you feel exhausted. It may have only been 5 sessions, but the dosage may have been high.. Also, radiotherapy continues to work for some time after the last session, which could be the cause of the exhaustion
You may need a blood test to make sure your red blood cell count has not been impacted by the treatment so far.
Have a word with your cancer team or your GP.
Do try to eat, little and often may be the best approach. I hope you start to feel better soon.
Kegsy x
Thanks for taking the time to reply and yes it was a high dose according to the delivery team.
The plan has always been to move between treatments as quickly as possible to give me the best chance.
Thanks for the advice about blood count I’ll make a call tomorrow
Hi Graham M4cee9d I had 5 high dose sessions of radiotherapy, and l experienced very extreme exhaustion! It wasn’t like a normal feeling of being tired, it felt like the smallest thing I did tired me out!
Thanks Chelle
Yea that pretty much describes me.
Ill speak to the nurses tomorrow though and hopefully get sorted so I can build up to the next treatment
