Hello
I had upper right lobectomy in July. Stage 2 and in one lymph node. I have my appointment with oncology tomorrow and I am terrified!
Are there others here that have been through this and what were your experiences? I am unsure at this stage whether to go through with it?
I am 62 and still recovering from (unrelated) sepsis, septic shock and septic arthritis at the beginning of the year.
Thank you
Karrie
Hello Karrie,
I was diagnosed T2AN0M0 and had a right pneumonectomy. After surgery my stage was revised to T2AN1M0 because the cancer was found in a lymph node close to the tumour. I was therefore offered adjuvant chemo and decided to go with it.
My experience was that it was unpleasant but doable and my decision was based on the grounds that if I didn't have it and the cancer subsequently recurred I would regret it forever. I also decided that, should the side effects become too much, I could stop the treatment anytime I wanted.
I don't know whether the chemo itself has prevented recurrence so far but the treatment was just over 11 years ago and I've had no further lung problems since then. I was 56 at the time.
It can be a difficult decision but on the basis of my history I'd certainly give it a go.
I wish you all the best.
Derek.
