Hello, I am new to the forum.
I am due to go into hospital next week to have a lobotomy (right upper lung). I am extremely worried.
I would be pleased to hear of other people’s experiences with this operation so I know roughly what to expect.
I am 62 with emphysema and the growth can’t be biopsied as it is in an area that is damaged. My PET scan did show uptake of contrast. I had invasive strep A sepsis earlier this year and am still recovering so it couldn’t have come at a worse time.
Thank you in advance for any replies.
Hi Karrie, welcome to the group and sorry about your cancer. On the plus side it's good you've been offered an operation, if they didn't think you were fit enough they wouldn't do it. I had a lobectomy right upper about 18 months ago and I also have asthma and rheumatoid arthritis and this was the first operation I'd had. The worst part for me was the chest drain which I kept a lot longer than most, usually it's removed after a day or two. Don't worry about pain relief, there will be plenty as they want you to be mobile and be able to cough and do breathing exercises. I was only in hospital for 2 nights, discharged home, did a lot of short walks and gradually increased the time and distance. I am back to playing 18 holes of golf and the operation hasn't stopped me doing anything only sometimes I do it a bit slower now. Good luck with it all, they will take good care of you I'm sure, big hugs x
