I was diagnosed 4 and a half years ago with lung cancer and also had spread to lymph, and spine.
I had Radiotherapy on my spine which blasted the tumour and 18 months of Chemo and Immunotherapy.
I have just had my latest CT scan and the Doctor told me that if my next scan in 6 months is also showing no change it means they have cured the lung.
I'm blown away by this after living in constant fear that there was no hope. I really can’t take it in, Obviously beyond ecstatic …
Has anyone been in a similar situation ?
That is fantastic news SamJG
I believe immunotherapy really is the way forward for lung cancer. In terms of treatments, it is still relatively new for lung cancer, I remember people in our lung group having the first immunotherapy treatments available. I think there will be more people like yourself out there, who have finished treatment and are cancer free, but for whatever reason they haven’t posted here. I think for some they want to move on, and MacMillan is a reminder of their disease and all the bad memories. So thank you for sharing your news with us, because we need to hear the positive stories. Treatment is hard, and can feel like a long slog, but stories like yours fill us with encouragement to carry on.
Long may your cancer free period continue. I bet you feel like shouting from the roof tops! And so you should!
Hi, that's fabulous news, congratulations.
I had similar, but many year's ago. I had breast cancer that had spread to my lymph nodes. After surgery and six weeks of radiotherapy daily I was told by my Oncologist that I had a 45% chance of living for another five years....that was 35 year's ago!
I am now in the middle of follow ups for lung cancer, thankfully caught early with no metastasis. I was diagnosed in August 2023 and subsequent CT scans and follow ups have shown positive reaction to the SABR radiotherapy. My first CT scan follow up in March 2024 following treatment showed a quick response to the first treatment with a 50% shrinkage of the lesion, so I was put on six monthly scans and follow ups. The second CT scan six months later showed more shrinkage, and my third scan in March showed no activity whatsoever, apart from scar tissue caused by the radiotherapy. I have another three years of scans and follow ups.
Once again, such lovely news for you, happy days.
Best wishes.
Ann
