Hi

I'm new to the group. My dad was diagnosed with lung cancer in February, just 2 weeks before his 77th birthday. It has spread to his lymph glands and his liver. He was told about the lung cancer over the phone by  locum GP at 17.50 on a Friday evening when he was in his home, alone. This made me so angry. I fortunately live a 2 minute walk from him so was able to get to him quickly.

The respiratory team have said that due to his health, treatment is not an option as this would probably shorten his life rather than extend it. We don't know which type it is as there is a high risk of bleeding into the lungs if they did a bronchoscopy as he is on warfarin. This was after they set up an appointment to do this after changing his medication to fragmin temporarily to reduce the risk of bleeding heavily. It was decided that the outcome wouldn't change their decision for no treatment.

We've still not seen an oncologist and he feels they've just threw him on the scrap heap.

He has had 3 aortic valve replacements due to his congenital heart murmur and has a cardiologist who has been great, however she did say that it would be a miracle if he makes it to Christmas. I don't have the heart to tell him this as I think it would take whatever fight he has left in him. She has been telling him to get his power of attorney in place and of the consequences of not having it when he might need it.

I don't know what to do to help him. There is one lung nurse who has been keeping in touch and I am very grateful for that but we're not even been given any advice.

There is only me and my brother as my mum passed away 29 years ago from acute myeloid Leukaemia.

Any advice would be really appreciated.
