I have lung cancer that is not curable but treatable. I crashed after my first cycle. I was diagnosed of being at risk of fluid entering my lungs and causing pneumonia and taken to hospital. I am nil by mouth and have an ng tube fitted and being fed. I have made great progress in 10 days and am itching to get home. However I have not made any progress with salt tests and the recommendation is to stay nil by mouth and ng tube. It is too risky to come home with an ng tube fitted. The junior oncologist is going to request a rig tube is fitted by gastroenterology and we should have an answer by Monday. The junior oncologist thinks they may refuse. I had neck cancer when I was 57 and had a peg tube inserted for 2 years and it was successful. The whole plan put forward by my senior oncologist is to get me fit enough to complete my treatment. Do you think gastroenterology will say yes? If it’s no how do I persuade them to say yes? What are your top tips. Thank you for reading this. To a team of fighters from a fighter.
Hi Benno39 and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.
I’m latchbrook, one of the Community Champions here on the Online Community and I can totally understand what a worrying time this must be for you and I really hope you get the outcome you want so that you can go home.
I noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet, so responding to you will 'bump' it back to the top of the discussion list again where hopefully it'll be seen by group members with the right experience.
While you're waiting for replies, it would be great if you could put something about your diagnosis and treatment to date into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
Hi Benno39 I can understand the urge to get home. I am wondering if you were able to get an answer today from the gastroenterology?
