Could it be anything else?

Hi

I am going to an appointment with a family member tomorrow. They have already had a CT scan and PET scan which showed a 5cm mass and infiltration into 3 vertebrae. They managed to get a biopsy even though they weren’t sure if they would be able to Sue to the location. We should get the results back from this at the appointment tomorrow.

Even though the Doctors have confirmed cancer from the scans, has anyone ever been or known that to be the case the tge biopsy results show it’s not cancer??

Thanks

  • Hi Louise80 welcome to the forum. It us difficult to speculate what the outcome of this could be. The results really are the only way to tell for 100% certainty and it's not easy waiting for these..Hopefully tomorrow will be here before you know it and them at least you will know gor certain what you potentially may be dealing with.xxx

  • Sadly it was bad news. Stage 4 non small cell cancer spread to at least 3 vertebrae. Pretty much confirming the PET scan. Still waiting on some of the biopsy tests to come back before confirming the treatment plan but the consultant is hopeful that they will be able to treat it with chemo. The consultant talked about prolonging life, not curing totally. Is that because it’s stage 4? Everything I read says that stage is incurable x

  • Hello Louise80,

Stage 4 is incurable but it is treatable.  There are a lot of treatments available and your plan will provide you with the best.   Your oncologist will need all the results from the biopsy which is tested for many things which helps to determine the best options for you.   I’ve no experience of any of the treatments yet as I’ve only recently been diagnosed myself and am starting my plan next week.
I know it’s a really scary time and I hope you get some news through.
    Stay in touch on here.

  • I have stage 4 lung and spine a terminal diagnosis a year ago and have been given imunotherapy, magic they can't cure it but it's keeping it at bay and treatable so grateful you keep it stable so far ,maybe ask your specialist I'm sure they have considered it
