Diagnosed on Tuesday. Complete and utter shock. Am seeing Consultant on Monday. I also have an appointment for a head scan. Is this normal? Is it to see if it has spread? I also have issues with memory and difficulty finding the words I want. I thought it was early sign of dementia. When I saw my GP she already knew that I had had a memory test last year and it was she who requested the head scan . I thought this was to see if any cells were deteriorated from dementia point of view. Please any help appreciated
Hi Tobythedog a very warm welcome to the group, but sorry you have had to join us here. I am sorry to hear of your recent diagnoses, I know how hard it is to hear this news. It is good that you are seeing the consultant on Monday, as they will be able to tell you what is going on. I don’t know what tests you have had to get you to this stage, but you may find you have to have a few more before they can decide what treatment is best for you.
As it is the GP that has requested the head scan I would say that this has been requested due to the memory problems that you have mentioned. Please do mention this to the consultant on Monday as well, as they may not know that the GP has requested this.
Good luck for Monday, Please do let us know how you get on.
Thank you so much for replying. It’s actually my husband that has been diagnosed but he’s not technical so I’m doing this on his behalf. We’re both in our late 70’s and very frightened. I will let you know what happens on Monday xx
Hi I’m 72yrs and had no symptoms I was diagnosed middle of June this year I have now had the operation to remove some lung and lymph nodes and I’m well on the way to being back to normal. I have my scan booked for February 25 so that will be my first check up scan ready to see the consultant in March . I am trying to keep as fit as possible eat healthy lots of walking. Stay positive get all the different test out of the way then see which road you’re put on wishing your husband all the very best
Hi Dito, thank you so much for your reply. My husband is the same- no symptoms, just routine scan for asthma. Your reply is so encouraging ️
I went to doctors because I had a chest infection so xray then had to go for scan . Then had to go and have a PET scan after that they still wasn’t 100%!it was cancer so I had a choice wait and see have another scan in 3 months ( I was never going to choose that ) or have a lung biopsy so that’s what I had and it came back positive so I had some of my lung removed and believe me that sounds worse than it was . I was up walking to and from the toilet same day and I was home on day 3 I did go home with a drain in that was in situ for 10days that was a pain in the backside . My best advice is for him to eat sensibly go out walking every day build up your stamina And strength wishing your husband all the best
