Hi,
I am scheduled to have an endobronchial ultrasound test (EBUS) at the end of November to investigate a lung nodule that has continued to grow in the year since it was first observed.
Has anyone had this test and if so, can you tell me what to expect. How quickly can I expect to return to normal activities, to sport afterwards? Are there any particular precautions to take? Any tips to make this easier? How did you handle the anxiety?
Thanks for any input.
Miranda
Hello Miranda,
I had this procedure in the diagnosis process. Although it sounds scary, it's really nothing like your imagination may lead you to believe.
I was given a sedative to relax which worked well, and the back of the throat will be numbed to make it easier to carry out the procedure. Once completed I was in recovery for a while whilst the sedative wore off, then had a chest x-ray to ensure all was OK, a cup of tea and after resting a while was sent home. It would be a good idea if you were accompanied by a relative or friend - as I recall you shouldn't drive for the rest of the day and it's sensible to be accompanied.
After was completed I couldn't remember much at all about it - just a very hazy recollection.
It's perfectly normal to be anxious, but I'm sure you'll find afterwards there was no need at all. I hope it all goes well for you and that the results are favourable for you.
All the best, Derek.
Hi Derek,
Thank you so much for your reply. I was indeed getting a bit overwhelmed by how I imagined the procedure and feeling very queasy when I thought of it. I am very glad to hear that your memory of it was a "hazy recollection". Having an X-ray afterwards sounds very reassuring too.
How soon afterwards were you able to resume normal activities?
Thanks again
Miranda
Hello Miranda,
I was OK the following day, no lasting effects at all, but if you're taking part in strenuous sport activities it might just be worth asking them if this is OK.
Hope you have the same experience.
Derek.
