Its interesting to note that results of biopsy still seem to be put over vaguely to the patient . i.e i am told mine is a small cell carcinoma of the lung . I will be given two days a week for six weeks of radiotherapy, if this makes me ill it will be stopped for palliative treatment. No size ,staging or offer of choice of treatment. I will be referred to an oncologist, no mention of treatment for other cancers ie other lung & tumour of the kidney. Plus I notice other posters seem to have had similar experiences. As the patient both I and my family feel let down by the 6months tests with still quite vague results. I wondered how others feel. Especially as some of the treatments are used for palliative care anyway. The physio at the end of next week as little bearing on my need if I am not having major surgery on my cancers in my opinion. Just have to wait till I see a more knowledgeable doctor I guess.
Hi katiec60 you say you will be referred to an oncologist, so have you not seen one yet? If not who has said you will be having radiotherapy? Sorry I’m just confused.
Radiotherapy is an important treatment in its own right, and many people here have had successful radiotherapy treatment. Not everyone is a suitable candidate for chemo. My lung cancer is a sarcoma, so is different to your diagnoses, but chemo does not work for my type of cancer. I did have radiotherapy which was very successful, and I have been stable for nearly 10 years now on hormone therapy.
Sorry you feel let down, but it does sound like you need to ask more questions as you don’t have the answers you want. You can speak to your GP about this if you haven’t seen your oncologist yet.
Hi Chellesimo, I am glad you have had time stable with cancer. my first cancer was in 1987 but this time it seems so different is it just my age not sure . But know its upsetting for me and my family. Theres a big difference between several cancers and one treatable one (which was treated in 1987.) plus a recurrance last year. It would be easier if they had said it was not treatable in my opinion, rather than giving false hope, or just ignoring the diagnosis that has been given by four personel . But nothing I can do about it is there, only do what they say like it or not. Thank you for your reply.
