Hi all I went to see GP I had restless legs he wanted a blood test that revealed I had raised red blood cells and low B6 he sent me for a chest X-ray and wanted poo/wee samples then I got a phone call a day later to go for a CT scan I then got a phone call to go to a diagnostic centre and was told abnormal in left lung on a level with my heart now I have a appointment to go for a PET scan

Wow I still cannot believe it shocked only found out 3 days ago .wondering what happens after the PEP scan

  • Hello Dito it does come as a shock to go from minor illness to  suddenly be seriously ill. After the Pet scan it may be tears of joy  or  another  shock you were not expecting. I have just come through that process plus a ct guided lung biopsy awaiting  results of biopsy on left lung. I went to my GP with  what I suspected to be side effect from  new drug prescribed for high blood pressure . I hope you feel better having now spoke to someone in the same boat.  The next stage is a Biopsy for you if the Pet scan results are still dubious. I thought Pet scans were fairly conclusive   but after doing the route  I feel its a rather shocking path to travel . My poo sample came back doubtful  but no action pursued. How do you feel about this  procedure ? I feel this is a good way to get patient details  as in my case I had a full body pet scan, and of course it teaches staff how to use the data, machines &learn patient etiquette, but I still feel like some guinea pig , what about you? was there anyone for you to chat too? My thoughts are with you  but its a very strange route for a cancer journey , have you thought about what you would like  once the results are confirmed ?  But there is still a chance yours could be benign so fingers crossed for you . One thing I hate is the  phrasing elective Biopsy, there was no elective choice  with my Biopsy they  said that was the only way forward, so I agreed not exactly  a choice is it ?  Hoping maybe you might not have to make that choice , I have not even been given a choice of treatment although there are many options today.  Enjoy the rest of your day , the sooner the tests are done the better for you will be thinking of you .

  • The PET-CT scan determines the size and location of the cancer and what stage it is, or whether it has metastasised (spread to other organs) The CT guided biopsy is one of the most important investigations, the biopsy determines what type and sub-type of lung cancer you have. There are two types of lung cancer; SCLC and NSCLC, plus the varying sub-types, hence, treatment depends on the type of cancer you may have.

    Best wishes.

  • Thank you for your reply it’s a very worrying time my PET scan is on 30th I really want this behind me x

  • I had a PET scan which has confirmed a positive glow but no spread I have a 2.2cm nodule in right lower lung its causing constant pain as its rubbing on my chest wall. They are not bothering with a biopsy for me and going straight for surgery on 4th June. I will then get a full diagnosis after and poss chemo.

I'm still in the surreal mode if it all I was fit and well until chest pain in December now I have lung cancer wtf! I'm 40 never smoked and a single mum to 3 kids. Apparently I'm brave and tough in reality I'm walking this path thinking wtf!

Be brave each test is there to give them answers and to move towards a final diagnosis.

    Big love and hugs xxx

  • Thank you so much for your comment it’s really tough not just for me but for all family and friends. I really want the pet scan over and done with so I know hope it all goes well please keep in touch x

  • Thank you Sanguinesse, so I was correct the PET scan  would normally confirm  cancer or not  and size.  Here's one for you  I was told I had three cancers none of them connected/ metastasised but the Guided Biopsy would determine this and whether the lung one was bilateral or separate from  the other lung and Kidney. Thank you so much  nice to talk to someone who understands on the day I had my Pet Scan  so did another former member of my family. My husband died of undiagnosed cancer, so did my son -in law and another in law. I myself had my first BCC removed in 1987 which is cancer but does not spread to other areas only in very rare cases.  I was most perturbed by the departments initial  blunt approach to my current circumstance and felt for other patients  being put through such an uncaring approach.

  • Hi Dito, well that's another couple of days gone towards your Pet Scan date. The Pet scan is quite leisurely plus once done  your treatment can be planned one would hope. Remember any treatment could save your life and give you less suffering, long term. I understand the worry aspect you are going through my friend rings me everyday to know I am OK  she is more concerned than I am.  On the better side the Pet Scan  could be good news . Thinking of you x
