My husband was told 3/4 weeks ago that he had lung cancer.

we then found out on the 7th feb it was also in one of his adrenal glands also spread to abdominal  ( fatty apron area) and also the brain.

we were told it was incurable.

He has struggled to eat the last few weeks due  to the pain in his abdominal area he is on oral morphine and also Zomorph.

he went from 95kg to 83kg in about 2 weeks he can hardly eat and he is just wasting away because he says he isn’t hungry or can only eat a small amount.

has anyone else had the same issues and if so what could be fine to help.

we are being send out shakes and soup from our caseworker for him to fry.

he has also had biopsies sent to 4 other hospitals in the country to find out what kind of cancer he has so then can treat it correctly.

plus he gas struggled to go to the bathroom the last 2/3 weeks and when he does it comes out like milkshake.

Just don’t know what I can do to help him , it’s heartbreaking to see him wasting away in front of me I know he wants to fight this for his little granddaughter but he just can’t get the food intake into him.

any suggestions

  • Talk to ypur lung team, when I was like this they prescribed me some high calorific drinks, you shoukd also mention how much pain he is in as it should be managed.

  • Hi,

Last November / December my dad who has Lung Cancer was struggling to eat /drink. His oncologist has put him on steroids which has helped greatly with eating / drinking. It's worth seeing if this is an option for him, I think it depends on the treatment he is receiving though.

Speak to his palliative team / oncologist for pain solution, they should be able to help you manage this.

    Sending love x

  • Yea they team our sending him out some samples.

He is back in hospital because he wasn’t eating or drinking and they say he has the cancer in his lower abdominal area too so thats not helping and they say he is seriously backed up so being in hospital they can treat him correctly.

  • Excellent news, I wish him all the best.Pray

  • I'm Sorry to hear your journey of cancer.

We bought a Ninja Smoothie maker and made smoothies with avocado, banana, 10% full greek yogurt, Manuka honey, almond butter, full cream milk and some whey powder. This helped stop the weight loss. You can add double cream and some of them shots the hospital give you.

It's worth a try and make sure you use quality ingredients.

  • It was Calogen shots and I estimated each smoothie was 500 calories plus lots of protein as well. I topped up with whole milk and got 3 smoothies from one Ninja container. Hope that makes sense.

  • Thank you everyone for your  replies.

we have had more devastating news.

we have been informed that from

jis last CT scan 2 weeks ago and the one yesterday that the cancer has rapidly spread to his liver , kidney and bladder and the belive his tongue.

i am so numb I can’t believe the cancer has spread so quickly, we don’t know how long he has got but the way he is and his breathing I feel we don’t have long.

Just don’t know what I am going to go with out him been together 37yrs.
