Hello again lovely folks
You may recall me posting earlier about me going through surgery for lung cancer and being alone, Well surgery went ahead and it was an awful experience because of the staff on the ward and their not answering call bells and no pysiotherapist present to help me to breath properly, I was discharged home after 4 days as they needed my bed (far too early in my opinion). Despite all this, almost a month later I find myself in A&E with a racing heart, temperature feeling generally rubbish, I had to wait on a hard back chair 48 hours before I was told I had Pulmonary embolisms in both lungs and pneumonia in the remains of my operated lung. I was told there were no beds so was discharge to "The Virtual Ward" which is in fact, home, and a nurse comes and does my obs once a day. I still haven't had my pathology results from the surgery, so don't know what I'm dealing with there. Has anyone else had these complications after lobectomy and managed to survive? and does the fact that they have sent me home to "the virtual ward" mean, they know something I dont and know there is nothing else they can do? Trying not to be morose, just realistic, thank you
Hi RpW I am so sorry to hear you have had such a rough time. Our NHS is wonderful, and we are lucky to have it….. when it works! In all honesty cancer care has not recovered after covid, and some areas of our country are struggling more than others. The winter virus’s have really put a strain on hospital beds, and this is the reason why you have been discharged. They needed your bed. This is not a perfect solution, but it is the only one they had. It does not excuse the way you were treated whilst you were in hospital, and I am really sorry you were not treated better.
I hope you get your pathology report back soon, and you start to feel better.
Thank you for your reply Chellissimo , sorry it's taken me so long to reply but I didn't get notification that I had a reply.
