Hello, I'm now over 3 years into my stage 4 NSCLC journey. And my dear lymph nodes have decided to raise there ugly selves again. I am due to start Docetaxel soon. Has anyone had this and how did you get on. Is the infusion a long one? Side effects etc.

Thank you Hollsmolls

  • Hello Hollsmolls

I hope you do not mind me replying as I had a different type of cancer. By doing so it will bump your post and hopefully someone who has had docetaxel will see it and offer support.

I am sorry to hear of your lung cancer journey. I hope that you do not have to wait too long to get started on the chemotherapy. Once I knew I needed chemo for my cancer, although very nervous, I just wanted to start it.

I will pop a link to some info about docetaxel.

If you want to find previous posts in the Lung cancer group about docetaxel then you can use the search feature at the top. It's next to the home button. If there are other's who have had the same treatment, their posts should come up.

Hopefully someone will now see your post and offer some more specific support but if there is anything else you need in the meantime, please do ask.

  • Hi hollsmolls,

my husband has had 4 rounds of Docetaxel- the infusion takes a few hours and his side effects have been the usual : nausea fatigue sore mouth etc. Nausea is easily controlled through ant-emetics and ulcers pass quickly with help of chlorhexadine mouthwash.

Worst psychological side effect I would say is the hair loss which although expected, was still a big loss to adjust to. It’s certainly no picnic but definitely manageable and has been giving good results in slowing disease progression - hope this helps-  all the best with your treatment

  • Hello

Thank you for replying.  I had my first dose last week. I am a bit tired and my mouth is a bit sore but other than the odd run to the loo all good. My hair is still here but I am getting that tingling in my scalp. I lost my hair 3 years ago on a different chemo so if anything I'll probably be more ready for it this time. But who knows. I'm more upset its turned me off my xmas fizz. Lol

Thank you again and I hope his journey continues in a positive way.

    Holls
