Coughs back

After my bowel resection Aug 21 reversal Sep 22 lung cancer lobectomy March this year and a trip to Spain I started to feel well.

Today I’m back wheezing and coughing feeling really miserable.

I was booked for an MOT yesterday but I was cancelled late.

When I phoned to get a CEA blood test the receptionist was really off hand and my first MOT is now in a month

My surgery have given so little support

To say I’m really cheesed off is an understatement

Im waiting for my results of my six month CT abdomen and thoracic

Its so stressful. My husband is having investigations with a mass near his shoulder and growth removed and tested next week. They’ve rushed him through

I seem to be living with a big grey cloud above my head

  • Hello Artsie

I hope you do not mind me replying as I had a different type of cancer to you but I am trying to bump your post so someone will see it and offer support.

I am so sorry that you are having such a tough time. It must be hard when you do not feel you are getting the support you need from your doctors at a time when you need it.

If you are feeling particularly wheezy and are also coughing, I wonder whether in the circumstances it would be an idea to call NHS111. They may well tell you to go back to your doctor but they may be able to send you to a Walk in centre etc to at least see someone physically. They may also be able to offer support with meds or move things along with the GP?

I can understand that you are feeling really cheesed off with it all and with worrying about your husband as well. Perhaps think about giving the Support Line a call and maybe talk it through with them. One of the nurses may also be able to give you some advice regarding the coughing and wheezing.

Hopefully someone will now see your post and be able to offer you some more support but in the meantime if there is anything you need please do ask.

    Jane

  • Hi Artsie, I am so sorry you are having such a rubbish time at the moment. We get ourselves all geared up for these appointments, and for them to be cancelled at last minute is frustrating! The fact that your MDT has been moved a month away, tells me that they don’t think there is any concern at the moment, however that does not help your thoughts over thinking.
I would call my lung nurse, and explain how you are feeling, and that you need some reassurance about the MDT. Tell her that you feel abandoned by them and your surgeon, as that is the impression I get from your message. I am sure she will speak to your oncologist, I would expect my lung nurse to do just that.

Sending positive thoughts for your husband. I hope all goes well for him x

Im sorry for the confusion it was my first MOT that was booked at my doctors surgery. I was hoping for some GP support as I’ve had two boughts of cancer and the only time I spoke to him he gave me happy pills over the phone!!!

My thorasic abdomen CT results are in the pipeline and I’m feeling that cant have any more bad news and I am convinced the virus/ cold / flu or Covid that I am now suffering is stress related

I am 69 and I have never had a gp MOT. It’s neglectful and I am so fed up with it

They tried to object to me having my CEA levels that was due August. I still haven’t had it done yet!
My receptionists need to take chill pills and try treating patients with respect

After all I am paying her wages!!

They have a five minute answer greeting that’s still same as Covid. They have no chairs to sit on in the waiting room because of Covid

Theyre using Covid as an excuse for their insensitivity and just plan rudeness

I feel much better now I’ve had a moan

    Thank you x

  •   I am so sorry I miss read that! I really do need new glasses!

I completely understand your frustration with the GP. My father recently had a routine op, and once he was home, I knew he was not well so I went round to the doctors surgery. As soon as I walked in the receptionist shouted at me “there are no appointments “ I said “ I haven’t told you what it is about yet” she just repeated “ “ no appointments “  Dad ended up back in hospital with an infection and low sodium, I changed his doctor surgery, and thank fully have had much better service since. xx

  • That’s what I would like to do however I live in a village where we had our own GP and nurses they knew us all by name and our children. I felt supported however that’s gone the small practice has joined Montpellier Health which is a massive surgery the other side of Bristol

We don’t have doctors or nurses that can change dressings. I had to go miles to get my wound packed. The nurses were not trained   Oh I see a qualified nurse can not change a dressing.  No they’re not nurses in my surgery their trained in taking blood.

My lung consultant when removing the steristrips that the nurse had attached saying it wasn’t needed she said that the older nurses have done a stint in A&E know how to dress a wound

We are the poor relation here.

  • I tested positive for Covid this morning

I had a letter telling me after my lung op that I was vulnerable and eligible for a rescue remedy!

Well I’ve just spent an hour taking to various departments and they do not have a clue !

119 sent me to my doctor my doctor’s receptionist has never heard of it  This is giving me a headache

  • Covid! That's all you need Artsie.

I'm so sorry to read about all the problems you are having. At least you know why you are coughing and wheezing now. Your surgery sounds useless... can one of the macmillan nurses on here give you some guidance about accessing some rescue remedy.. whatever that is.. or other extra help? Or a chemist even?

It's easy to say, but keep don't let 'em get you down.

  • Thanks Baytree123

It’s taken hours but a doctor has now contacted me answering my quest for a rescue remedy or anti- viral is now off the recommendations from NHS. It was a trial put out to the vulnerable but they found that there was no advantage

Im not sure about the recommendations of six paracetamols for Covid.
You would really think that the researchers could come up with better medication to help manage the horrible symptoms

I’ve told mine that I am taking six paracetamol and six ibuprofen. My GP said short terms would be okay. And to eat with Ibuprofen

    thanks for lovely encouragement Baytree

  • Ann my dad, who has blood cancer, was given the anti viral when he had covid recently. Yes it was not easy getting it prescribed, but he definitely saw a benefit from taking it.

I hope you feel better soon, I am hearing of lots of people coming down with it at the moment x

    Take care all
