Hi all, new here.
dad was diagnosed with throat cancer 3 years ago had a total laryngectomy and had thyroid and glands removed, prognosis was good, but was given a high chance of coming back. Fast forward to now, dad has been diagnosed with terminal lung cancer and referred to palliative care. They have told him he is too sick for any immunotherapy or chemotherapy. He sleeps all the time barely eats looks so sick. I guess I’m trying to understand how we got here so quick and any experiences of how long I have left with him. Scared and heartbroken. What do we do
Hi.
Have you really pushed your Dad’s medical team for a prognosis. Sometimes they don’t like to upset you by saying. But if you explain you can cope with it .. if you think you can.. but need to know how to make the best of your time with him then they may be able to give you a better idea..
When my dad was given terminal diagnosis for pancreatic cancer I was told six months. They were right almost to the day. We were able to plan for that and do things on days he felt a bit better. Once he went into hospital for palliative care it was only a couple of weeks I’m afraid.
Keep strong. X
