Post-surgery ‘upholstery’ advice!

I have my surgery on Tuesday - a frozen wedge and possibly top third of my right upper lobe, depending on the wedge analysis (a biopsy wasn’t possible for me, but PET was positive).

The surgery leaflet I was sent mentioned bras can be uncomfortable to wear for a while, at the keyhole incisions.

Does anyone have any advice about suitable options? Vests with a support bit? Sport bras? I can’t get my head round the positioning of the incisions, avoiding pressure/rubbing on them, and possible short term difficulties raising my arm.

Thank you!

  • Hi  you can get t shirt type bras, which are soft and have no clasps etc. I would buy biggest one possible so it is not tight but gives some support. They also do bras in marks and Spencer’s for post surgery, which might be worth a look.

Wishing you all the best for your surgery x

  • Thank you! I’ve just bought a front loader soft one and a hidden support vest from M+S in a size up, to tide me over. Hopefully they’ll do the job for the time I’m sore. It’s funny the things that pop into my brain at 3am…. This question was from an intrusive thought a couple of nights ago!

  • These are so comfy I had them for my bowel op and lung. Like you I bought two large front openings early days but soon went back to this style

  •   they look so nice! Where are they from?

  •  Asda. £10 for two

I have bought four I gave one to my sister in law who recently had breast surgery as well
I ordered them online befire my bowel surgery so I could be up dressed and out of hospital

When I had the lung I bought two open front bras but I found my arm was sore so I wore my old Asda ones. They’re big enough to pull up.
    Super comfy.

  • Another item I took in was front opening tops as I thought that the drain may be a problem. I took lots of choice. I was able to wear oversized vests and baggy blouses no problem Once drain was out I got the comfy bra on and loose clothing.

  •    Good old Asda! Thanks so much for the tip.
I’d read in the Roy Castle leaflet about surgery that my MacMillan nurse sent me, about front opening tops and I’ve just bought new pyjamas for that reason (not unhappy about that!)

It’s going to be so warm for a few more days, I really must look at what I’ve got stashed away that might be comfortable and cool, to tide me over the post-op recovery x

  • Yes comfort is the key

I bought two blouses that were huge I wore one once and they’re both in the charity. I went with the style I like but sized up and stretchy

my slippers looked like shoes my PJ bottoms looked like hippie trews and a stretch mid sleeve T-shirt That was my discharge outfit

I stuck a body warmer on

I walked across a Bristol City Centre zebra crossing in my pjs to get in our car and home.

    I still find that weird.
Not one looked, so you go comfy.

That’s the important thing. People don’t notice they’re too busy Eyes at their phones
