Hi. I have recently had an upper right lobectomy following the discovery of a 3cm nodule/mass.
CT and PET scans showed it as malignant but that it had not spread to anywhere else. Location meant it was impossible to biopsy until the operation.
I am still waiting for the results so no staging etc but my specialists have already made it clear if the lymph nodes come back clear they will not recommend chemo, immunotherapy etc just regular scans.
I know I must wait for the results but in the meantime I just wanted to see if many other people in the same situation have had this recommendation. And possibly regretted it?
For your info, I am 64, otherwise healthy, haven’t smoked for 35 years and had no symptoms. The cancer was found by accident.
Thanks for any feedback.

  • Hi baytree

i had the same op 30/12/22, no spread thankfully . Get follow up scans & x rays. I don’t regret the op at all, my nodule was also found by accident. The only trouble I’ve had is frequent chest infections which I never had before the op (I’m also asthmatic) but I feel so very fortunate it was discovered in time. Wishing you well & hopefully you won’t need chemo/immunotherapy

    Good morning lovely people.

2nd CT scan on 17 April this tear (R upper lobectomy Dec. 2022) recent scan has shown my middle lobe is compressed. Having bronchial lavage on the 23rd May. Letter to GP from consultant described it as possible middle lobe syndrome,  GP unsure what this is. Regular chest infections but one in December this year & a few weeks ago really floored me. Throat is quite raw & my voice is quite hoarse. Anyone able to suggest any ideas on what's going on with me ?

  • Hi. Thanks for reply. Only three weeks since my lobectomy so too soon to say if I will have longer running problems like you. Hope yours clear up eventually.

So no talk at all about preventative therapy? I’ve read that recurrence rates are quite high.

  • Hi baytree

sorry for the delay in replying (mad day yesterday with repairs to my kitchen range !)

if it’s any consolation to you, I’ve researched on recognised medical sites. The occurrence of nslc is quite unlikely if no lymph node involvement but screening for 5 yrs post op should catch anything before it gets the chance to develop into anything to be worried about.
I relate my recurrent chest infections to my asthma & living in a rural area with heavy farm & agricultural traffic - lots of dust ! But as I said in my previous post , I feel so very fortunate in not needing any further treatment. I’m praying this will be the same for you.
    take care x

  • Hi Indian. Thanks for the info. Good luck.. and keep well x

  • Hi Baytree

Lower right lobectomy and top segment. No spread just monitored.
Keeping fingers crossed as I am from bowel cancer group however the lung is another primary. I’m now being monitored once for both which is great. Been abroad since op and I’m fine but do now have allergies so I’m on antihistamines

  • Hi Artsie.

Thanks for reply. Could I ask you how long ago you had the lung op and if they even discussed therapy rather than monitoring?

Also.. a bit off topic... but did you find it difficult to get holiday insurance? We had an October holiday to USA (booked before all this started three months ago) and I'd still like to go if possible.

Hope the monitoring goes well and you continue to improve. A

  • Hi I'm new on forum I had  upper right  lung  removed in june  23 due to  cancer being found  during  routine  healthy lung check  I had  no symptoms at all ive  recovered well  since  surgery but  find  it  difficult to know what  happens  now  im also  finding it  hard to  get  travel insurance at  a reasonable cost  .

  • Hi Baytree123

So sorry I’m slow to answer I will check my settings

I had my lobectomy and segment had clear margins so there’s no further treatment at this time

The lobectomy happened because he wasn’t happy with the margins when he took the segment  so he went back in and took the lobe and top segment

Insurance wasn’t an issue as I was in Spain with my brother and I checked that my EHIC card covered me if there was many problems.. A client of my brothers stayed one week in his holiday home in Spain during his immunotherapy treatment. The cost was.
    sit down

    Four and a half thousand!!!

So I think you’ll need to research insurance

Thanks for you well wishes. I wish you health and happiness and some good insurance prices.

    best wishes
