Hi everyone,
I'm new to the group. My husband is 46 and has just been diagnosed with stage 4 NSCLC spread to his lymph. Obviously this came as a huge shock as he only had a slight cough. We are trying to process and look at treatments.
Our oncologist just called and said he hasn't got a gene mutation so can't have targeted therapy. They want him to have Chemo and immuno therapy but also he's a candidate for a drug trial.
Does anyone have any experience with drug trials? Can you offer me any advise at all?
Thanks
Hi Buckle welcome to the group, but sorry to hear about your husband.
The chemo/immunotherapy combo has been very successful for a few people in the group. Hopefully someone who has had this treatment will be along to share their experience with you.
Trials are a whole different ball game. There are so many different drug trials, and there are lots of tests and conditions that need to be adhered too, before anyone can be accepted on the trial. Obviously they are drugs that are still being looked at and tested, so the patient is very much a Guinea pig, but they are watched extremely closely by the medical team. I remember when immunotherapy was only available on trials, and now it is one of the largest treatments available.
Please do let us know how your husband gets on.
Thanks, he's been offered a phase 3 trial which so far has had good results but he's obviously worried about trying an unlicensed drug.
