  • Hi everybody. It’s such a relief to find some where I can speak honestly.  .in Feb 2020 I had a really awful bout of flu.it knocked me out I felt the infection go to my lungs and was out of action for a few weeks. As my oxygen levels were low I was invited for a spurometry test and subsequently diagnosed with copd .I believe it’s the emphysema part as no cough .I went for a chest X-ray which showed some infection and a follow up 8 weeks later which showed some improvement but I wasn’t followed up with any other testing. So as I’ve had a tight chest lately I’ve had another X ray.The report came back recommending a Ct for “ An area of scarring in upper right lung which has grown a little “ I’ve had the Ct 4 days ago so the waiting game is on.I was adopted but have found my Mum died from Lung Cancer and my full sister was diagnosed by chance last year and has had surgery and  is on the mend.
I quit smoking 5 years ago after 35 + years .Obviously I know I’m in a very high risk area .I’m beside myself, cant eat ,sleep or concentrate on anything.Sorry for the rant it’s so good to be able to express my fears.Best wishes to everyone . Helen.x

  • Hi Helen, welcome to the group but sorry you find yourself here. There are a number of reasons why you have this scarring, but you are right, it is nerve racking waiting to find out what it could be.

This group is very welcoming, and a good place to come and chat whilst you wait for the Ct results. I am sure you will find lots of support and encouragement here. Sometimes it makes us feel better to just come and put our thoughts into words, knowing someone will read and understand how you feel.

I am sure others will be along to welcome you here soon too x

  • Thank you Chelle,.

Im aware no diagnosis yet and really don’t want to offend anyone who is already in their journey.I spoke to my sister yesterday ( we’ve only met a couple of times in 20 years ) Apparently my birth Mum and her had different types of lung cancer but she is recovering well after keyhole lobe surgery and has has a 6month clear check. Lovely to hear positive news.

  • You won’t offend anyone  we have all been in your shoes, having tests and in limbo waiting for results. We will all just pray that your results come back as not cancerous.

This beginning stage, where you are, having tests, being told maybe it’s a) or b) but can’t confirm until all tests are back, is in some ways the most difficult part of any of our journeys. It seems that once we are told and are given a treatment plan, things seem to settle. I think it’s the fear of the unknown and in many ways, knowledge is power.

It is good to hear that your sister is doing well. Although some cancers are hereditary, most are just down to really bad luck. My family have the BRCA1 gene, which I do not carry, but I still ended up with cancer. My sister sadly does have the gene, and she has had breast cancer, but the cancer was completely unrelated to BRCA1. I think we must be one of the most unlucky families. X
