Hi Everyone,
I've had a little whirlwind of a week and wondered if anyone with more experience than me could help me identify if there might be a chance the 3.9cm mass in my right upper lobe could potentially be benign or am I clutching at straws!?
I absolutely know none of us are experts and will always listen to the real experts in the first instance - however, no one has told me that it could be potentially something other than lung cancer. So wanted thoughts on my current process...
In short, I've been ill and thought it was a bad chest infection that wouldn't go away, I'm a smoker so Nurse started off the COPD diagnosis with xray and bloods. My bloody are fine.
However, the day yhe xray results came back I was rushed for a "short notice" CT scan (with the dye) that very day. Whilst they told me the results would be 5 to 10 days.. within three days (Friday) the doctors called me in.
They said its "highly likely is cancer", I asked if maybe it could be a cyst or abcess, they answered no. Within an hour I had a call from the macmillan team in my hospital.
I'm booked in next Thursday for an EBUS and the following Wednesday for results and treatment plan.
They had originally wanted to do a needle biopsy on two of my lymph nodes in the left side of my neck which are larger than they should be apparently. However the person that does this is on annual leave, I was due to go on holiday the following week... the nurse took consultant advice on this... which is why they changed to the EBUS as they wanted my biopsy sooner rather than later and they have asked that I do not travel due to the urgency.
I guess my question is, is there even a tiny possibility that they could have got the urgency wrong and that it could be benign maybe? They have talk alot about the shape and I know deep down these people know exactly what they're looking at, but it would be nice to know if there was even a tiny chance that maybe, just maybe I could be one of the lucky ones!
Ps I'm already feeling extremely lucky that we have found something so very early and everything is moving so quickly x
Hi, I understand your anxiety. I had a similar experience last year. Nodule on my r upper lobe grew from 3mm to 9mm in 6 months. Uptake of dye on pet scan (organised in a week). To deep for needle biopsy so had it done under GA, signed consent to proceed with lobectomy if pathology results positive while I was under GA.
had upper R lobectomy, nodule was cancerous but luckily no lymph node involvement so didn’t need chemo or radiotherapy . I will be screened for the next 4 years. Please can I say, I only had one bad night after surgery, otherwise got told off for doing too much !! Surgeon & ward staff named me their star patient !!! Good luck xx
Good morning lovely people.
2nd CT scan on 17 April this tear (R upper lobectomy Dec. 2022) recent scan has shown my middle lobe is compressed. Having bronchial lavage on the 23rd May. Letter to GP from consultant described it as possible middle lobe syndrome, GP unsure what this is. Regular chest infections but one in December this year & a few weeks ago really floored me. Throat is quite raw & my voice is quite hoarse. Anyone able to suggest any ideas on what's going on with me ?
Hi, in February this year I had a pet scan that revealed a 5cm tumor in right lung and a 2.5cm tumor in my left lung, lit up like a beacon, after an agonising wait of 8 weeks I went into hospital for nav bronoscopy, the day before they did ct scan, I had the proceedure and no problems, the consultant then told me that the 2.5 cm tumor in my left lung had gone, WHAT ! do you mean its gone, its gone, it wasnt cancer and its gone, just keep cluthing, I am unfortunately not one of the lucky ones because the one in my right lung is nsclc, I will pray for you as thats all I can really offer, dig deep and and stay strong
Thank you Palamon.
I think I've been really lucky up until now with it all being so quick.
I wrote this thread a couple of days after being told by the GP "it's cancer" - I'm already everyone here can appreciate the shock of that.
I've since been told that the xray & ct scan appear to be pretty conclusive which is why I have had the EBUS, I still don't have the results from that which was just over a week ago but I've been told now that, Tomorrow the MDT team are meeting and I'm the first appointment in the same day to find out the next step of the journey may be
Hi Mich, hopeing things turn out well for you regards the ebus procedure, when I had mine I was told by the consusultant there was no cancer in the lymph nodes, I high fived him the look on his face was priceless, he obviously wasn't expecting that so it was an awkward high five but never the less it made him smile, good luck.
