My husband had an upper left lung lobectomy in January with removal of lymph nodes. About 2 mths later he noticed that his abdomen had become a little swollen on his left side, about 1 inch below where the drain tube had been, although it's not painful. It’s still there, slightly bigger, and has a sort of rubbery feel if you press it, like a soft ball. His cancer nurse hadn’t a clue and didn’t seem bothered. Having consulted Dr Google, I’ve seen a few articles which make me wonder whether it’s a lymphedema.
I’ve been wondering whether anybody else has experienced this after a lobectomy. I’ve read that it’s quite common in arms and legs but one of the articles does mention the belly too.
Hi Chocaholic28 sorry you haven’t had a reply to your post yet. Whilst you wait, I wonder if you may want to ask the question in the ask_a_nurse section.
Thank you Chelle. I have since found someone on another forum with exactly the same symptoms and hers was indeed a lymphedema. He’s playing safe though and is going to contact his cancer nurse again or failing that our GP, just to make sure and to discuss treatment.
