My op went ok, in quite a bit of pain but afraid of using my pca too much as I get nauseous, had anti sickness which helped.

using the bed pan is the worst Weary did get some sleep.
Still on hdu but hoping for ward today,

getting comfy is a pain

  • Morning

Thanks for update on your op.

You must be thinking clearly even finding your phone let alone typing. I was out of it drugged and kept on horrible air bed.
Once you are on a ward the beds are more comfy and can be altered into an upright position. You’ll sleep better then. Also. HDU is noisy all that beeping

  • Glad to hear your op finally went ahead. As Artie says you will feel more comfortable when you get onto a ward. Know what you mean about the bed pans - I hated them. Once you are on the ward you will soon be able to get to the loo, albeit with a bit of help at first. Hope you feel comfortable soon and keep us updated on your progress.

  • I was catheterised so I didn’t experience too many  pans.
Hope you get on the ward soon

  • All going well, might be discharged tomorrow - hurrah! Had a bit of an issue last night getting on bed and ended up lay uncomfortable in loads of pain but got sorted, was a bit too ambitious I think,

anyway, drain out, nerve block out, been for a walk and physio happy with me.

I do know the real work will start when I get home but not afraid of pain, had 4 babies with no pain relief not even gas and air - I hate vomiting so anything that makes me nauseous I avoid Confused

think my pre planning and research paid off. Thinking of getting a reclining chair when I get home. A lot of ppl on american forums swear by their laz ee boy chairs.

my daughter on her way to give me a wash and get a clean nightie on, that will make me feel better.

thanks everyone for all your support - made a huge difference to my mental health,

  • Sounds like you're doing really well and good that you will be home soon - I'm sure you feel better now the chest drain has gone. My recliner chair has been a real help for me, although nothing beats your own bed. When you are discharged make sure you have your meds and contact number in case you have any concerns. Keep moving but also rest and don't overdo things and each week you will feel an improvement. Wishing you a speedy recovery.

  • Hi Greendeco13

Thanks for the update. It sounds as if you’re doing really well.
I slept with large fluffy pillows allowing me to sleep almost sat up. Just for a couple of weeks then I was able to lie on my side

I found paracetamols really good to help the pain to manageable I took ibuprofen’s too. I stayed off heavy pain meds as I can not have my bowel upset and lots of meds cause constipation

Take it easy, power naps are key to moving forward

  • Bit of a setback today, got some swelling under my arm, hoping it’s not lymphedema.

Been on loo so all in place apart from this swelling now.
just waiting for the doctors to make their rounds and hoping I can go home.
had a good sleep last night managed to lie on my side,

  • Fingers crossed that you get home today and that the swelling under your arm is nothing too serious. I think the body can throw up these things as a reaction to the operation. Let us know how it goes.

  • Consultant said was just swelling from the op, didn’t seem worried.
i’m home now - good to be in my own bed, and to see my dog.
i feel like all went well so fingers crossed the histology is good and that’s that.

  • That's good news, it's always nice to be back home. Relax now and concentrate on your recovery which I hope will be a speedy one. Fingers crossed that your histology results are good ones which it sounds as though they will be.
