I should of gone for my 6 month follow up after my lobectomy on the 30th with my consultant, but had to cancel as i had an upper respritory infection which i caught from hubby ,but i had seen my surgeon on the 28th feb ,and i had a chest x.ray that day as well she said she was happy and she would see me again in 6 months ,but a member on here has pointed out to me that i should have a scan before i see me consultant ,which i have not had ,surely they cannot tell from an x.ray if there is signs of cancer ?I also received my surgeons letter today that has also been sent to my consultant ,it gives the staging which is pT1c NO Mo fully excised. i now have a new date to see my consultant ,and though not able to get through to talk to my lung nurse i think i should ask about the follow up scan ,before i see my consultant on the 19th May ,i am annoyed at myself because i know i will do nothing but worry and fret till then ,when i could of had it over and done with last week
Hi Christie K
Its sounds as if your cancers fully in the bin which is great news.
I had my follow up yesterday after my VATS 7th March. I had an X-ray before the consultation and have a scan booked September that’s to check if there’s a reoccurrence
So you should have a CT around six months after the operation
I think it may put your mind at ease if you phone your nurses. They can reassure you as to if you’ve been missed for a CT
My sis in law was diagnosed three years ago with an X-ray
I would imagine you’ll have an X-ray before your consult anyway
I am being monitored by my bowel cancer team so now they will combine so I can have one full chest abdomen CT. I asked the consultant if I needed contrast for the lung as I didn’t have it for the lung before but it’s needed for the bowel. She said that contrast is not needed for lung they don't need blood flow
I hope this helps and not confuses you
Best wishes
Ann
Hi Ann ,thanks for the reply ,i did have an x.ray before i saw my surgeon on the 28th of feb ,and that is 6 months after ,the consultant i should of seen on the 30th ,but i did not know they could tell from an x.ray so that has eased my mind a little ,i will try again to speak to the nurse ,but it seems a bit of hit and miss at the moment ,probably with it being easter ,thankyou it has helped
Hi
I know what you mean I’ve been really confused with the different things that I’ve read. I remember reading that someone should have contrast so that concerned me. But no it’s not needed for lung. My sister in law surprised me when she said she had an X-ray then biopsy then operation which removed her top right lobe.
Im all new to this im from the Bowel so it’s a learning curve
I think you’re right about it being Easter so hopefully you’ll get through next week and if you’re needing a CT they can sort it
Take care x

Christie I did look on the Roy Castle forum and it seems that whether monitoring is done via CXR or CT scan depends upon the policy of each hospital. Some had CRXs with others having CT scans. It seems that there is NICE guidance on the interval periods that monitoring should be done but no protocol for how the monitoring is done. There were some having their monitoring done by CXR were going to push for CT scans as they felt that only the lungs were being monitored for recurrence and not the rest of the body.
It all seems a bit confusing but I hope this helps.

Thanks Trish ,it does all seem confusing ,but i must admit you and Ann have put my mind at rest a little .
