Hi, my mum has been diagnosed with adenocarcinoma (non small cell lung cancer) locally spread to her surrounding lymphnodes. They advised they wanted to try combined chemotherapy and radiotherapy with the intent to cure. She has just started her 3rd week of treatment and was told today the radiotherapy has stopped working as the tumor has moved. She's been given a scan to get an update and potentially make a revised treatment plan from there.
I'm looking for any advice on how this could happen and what it means for my Mum. Is it normal for a tumor to move after radiotherapy has began? Does this potentially mean she'll be at risk of the treatment not working? I'm not even sure how they know the radiotherapy has stopped working without a scan. Could they see this through a camera when doing the treatment maybe?
Any support or people who have had this experience would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Hi ziggy123, sorry to hear about your mum. I wonder if they say when the tumour has moved, whether they mean there has been increase in size? I haven’t personally heard of treatment being stopped because a tumour has moved.
During the radiotherapy they watch the procedure on a screen similar to watching an X-ray, so they are able to see what is going on. This must be where they have seen the difference in mums tumour.
The ct scan will give a better understanding of what is going on, and once done, I hope mum will be able to continue with her treatment x
Thanks for your reply Chelle. They've since done a scan and given her a revised treatment plan and she started her radiotherapy again today. Fingers crossed then identifying so.lmething needed amended was a good thing.
