Dads diagnosis

Evening all, looking for a bit of support more than anything.

My 79 year old active dad has M.S. He was diagnosed nearly 30 years ago and apart from walking with a stick and generally feeling a bit weak in his arms and legs he carries on with life as normal doing gardening, DIY, etc.

He got rushed to hospital on 14th November with voval chord palsy the same as what he had 7 years ago which resulted in a short term tracheotomy. Thankfully this time it wasn’t needed and after two weeks in intensive care with pneumonia etc and 4 weeks in total in hospital he is now home. However….

When he was in hospital after they drained fluid from his lungs they found cancerous cells. Since then after several Investigations they have diagnosed him with adencarcinoma, stage 4 lung cancer with metastases in the liver and a couplE of nodules in his lower back.

Apparently there is no mass in the lungs so they are guessing it is in the lining.

We’re all devastated, especially Dad. He’s gone through so much already and I am Not sure if he has the fight left in him.

He’s meeting with the oncologist in a couple of weeks to discuss chemotherapy which apparently is his only option.

any reassurance that there is some Chance for him?

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I'm not a member of this group but I noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet. Responding to you will 'bump' it back to the top of the discussion list where hopefully someone with the experience you're looking for will see it and respond.

You might also like to join the family and friends group, which is a safe and supportive place to discuss your worries and emotions with others who have someone living with cancer. If this is something that you'd like to do, clicking on the link I've created will take you straight there where you can then join and start a new post in the same way as you did here. You can also join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

While you're waiting for replies, it would be great if you could pop something about your dad's diagnosis and treatment so far into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
